Once upon a magical time, homemade seasonal soup was cooked to order and delivered weekly by bicycle to the hungry citizens of a small town in northern California. These lucky souls feasted on fresh, local produce and meats chopped by hand and simmered with spices and herbs in organic broth. The purveyors of this goodness were known by one and all as the Soup Charmer and the Soupinatrix, dba Cycle City Soup Company. And there was much rejoicing.
Alas, all good things must make a profit or come to a screeching halt. And so, in March 2013, we simmered our final pots of soups and slashed the tires on our delivery bikes*. Over the years, we’ve heard the plaintive wails of distraught former Soupsters and felt their pain, but could not provide the sustenance they required. Publish a cookbook, they begged. Give us your kick-ass recipes, they pleaded. Hook us up with your personal stylist, they beseeched.**
We missed you guys. We really did. But publishing a cookbook was going to entail a bunch of administrative and business BS that we didn’t want to face. Finally, we found a way to bring our soup-loving community back together and feed our souls as well. Welcome to our blog! Here you’ll find your favorite soup and dessert recipes from that magical, mythical time. Take off your bra and settle in for some righteous tales from The Brothel, as we called our commercial kitchen.
*Not really. We donated the bikes to charity.
